Bulldog Tactical Group is happy to have the opportunity to work in unison with Strong Persuader to present this firearms training event. For this event, the morning will combine our Florida Concealed Weapons Permit and Basic Firearms Safety & Tactics classes. We will finish the session with a shoot off competition for great prizes.

Snacks to be provided by Strong Persuader Arms.

Concealed Weapons Permit Training:

This class meets the standards of training required by the State of Florida to attain a concealed weapons permit.  The class places a heavy emphasis on safety and Florida state statutes as they relate to the use of force and the use of deadly force. All paperwork will be included with this class in a soup to nuts fashion…the only thing you will need for your application after this class is to get fingerprinted.

Basic Firearms Safety and Tactics:

This class has been designed for gun owners or potential guns owners with limited or no experience with firearms. The class will consist of a classroom portion reviewing safety, shooting fundamentals, marksmanship, malfunctions, and maintenance. The range portion covers marksmanship and bulls eye drills, malfunction drills, point shooting, and practical shooting. A thirty eight page book with all of the material covered in the class will be provided to the student. Firearms can be provided upon request at no charge.

Shoot off for a prize:

Bulldog Tactical Group has a long standing tradition of always having a shooting competition at the end of every class for the students. While we never divulge the course of fire until the day of the shoot,  suffice to say it will be fun, safe, and end with a bang.

Registration:  Register by emailing frank@sp-arms.com or via phone at 407-539-1432

ARs and the Green Tip Ammo

2/18/2015

Picture
As responsible gun owners, I am sure many of you keep up with the goings on with the ATF. Over the last 18 months, they have attempted to put in place an import ban on certain firearms, enable drastic restrictions on certain types of rifles and now it seems they are focused on what they intend to class as “Armor Piercing Ammunition.” While the stories have largely circled around the “green tip” 5.56 mm ammo, the restrictions as proposed would apply to a much broader array of ammunition, including the 5.7 x 28 mm round popular in many of the FnHerstal products, as well as certain .22 cartridges.

As it has been published, ATF is proposing, contrary to what the current law seems to read, to deny a "sporting purpose exemption" for any “alternative rifle ammunition”, e.g. brass or steel projectile, meeting the legal definition of "armor piercing ammunition" that may be chambered in a "multi-shot" handgun or derringer.

That’s a lot of quotations, but the bottom line is that if a round that meets the armor piercing definition can also be chambered in a handgun that can chamber more than one round, it would be banned under the new rules.

I’m torn here a little bit ... not on the ridiculous nature of the proposal (I am 100% against it!!) ... but on how the ATF gets portrayed in these discussions. Like many government agencies, the ATF has at least two big picture components – (1) the front line folks that most dealers, owners and law enforcement deal with, and (2) the bureaucrats in the home office, mainly in this case, the Attorney General, Eric Holder (Wasn’t he supposed to be quitting last year????). I am pretty sure that every reputable dealer and law enforcement person that you talk to will tell you the front line folks are pretty great across the board. Personally, they have always answered every question I have had, they spend a lot of time on education and have been a real pleasure to deal with. Overall, they very much leave me with the impression that they are on the side of the reputable gun dealer and the responsible gun owner.

Bureaucrats get stereotyped for a reason. Again, I am sure there are some right minded, good hearted shooters working at the home office, but the good gets overshadowed by the bad when they come out with this kind of proposed policy wonkiness.

But, I’m also torn for this reason ... while I’m not a conspiracy nut, do we all remember when they started approving the sale of what are clearly short-barreled rifles to anyone with one eye and half sense, but calling them pistols because of the pistol stabilizing brace, or similar prosthetic-looking device? Now, right on the heels of that, they are saying we need to ban 5.56 “rifle” ammunition, because it can be shot in multi-round “pistols.” Admittedly, you would have to give the bureaucrats a lot of credit for foresight to set this up this way, but it seems way too convenient a coincidence.

So, what do we do?

First, read the actual proposal, not what some blogger on the internet wants you to think it is:

ATF FRAMEWORK FOR DETERMINING WHETHER CERTAIN PROJECTILES ARE “PRIMARILY INTENDED FOR SPORTING PURPOSES” WITHIN THE MEANING OF 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(17)(C)

Second, pay attention to the last page of the document above it directs you where you can post your comments to the ATF. IMPORTANT NOTE: ATF cannot take action on implementing a proposal until all comments are addressed ... use that as you will.

Third, don’t panic. YES, there have been some runs in parts of the country on ARs and ammo and magazines and YES, the Eric Holder administration has stated publicly that it wants to implement some landmark “ban” legislation or order before the next election. However, Strong Persuader has green tip 5.56, 5.7 x 28 ammo, ARs and magazines galore. We will not raise our prices like some dealers and we will keep this availability as long as we can hold out. Check out our online inventory of guns and call or email about our ammo and mags.

Fourth, take action. Call or email your senators and congressmen/women. Visit the link below to get details on how to contact your representatives:

Kidnapping Scam Targets Central Florida Residents

2/13/2015

Everyone needs to be aware that there is a new phone alleged kidnapping scam that appears to be targeting Central Florida and particularly the Orlando and Winter Park area. Please advise all of your friends and neighbors about this and ask them to be extra vigilant. NO ONE IS ACTUALLY BEING KIDNAPPED, however the scam leads the recipient of the call to believe their loved ones are in immediate danger.

The details of recent calls are:

a.      Number calling: 407-280-4523
b.      Money instructions: Wire through Western Union
c.      Wire to: Maria E. Rodriguez Colon in Pennsylvania

The caller targets numbers that have been obtained from stolen phones or ordinary internet databases. They make contact through a local number that shows up on your phone (not a blocked or private call) and utilize engineered questions to solicit some very basic personal data. Generally, they say they are calling from a hospital or emergency room and that they have a patient that is seriously hurt but was able to give them the number to call or they found it in personal effects. They then solicit identifying information and then flip the conversation to say that the person is not really hurt but has hurt one of their relatives (your son/daughter/wife ran over my kid…)  and they are holding the victim hostage until you pay money for their release. They are very aggressive, saying they have already beaten up the hostage for what they have done and will kill them if money is not immediately wired via Western Union or other fairly untraceable means to pay for “medical expenses”. They emphasize doing it quickly or bad things will start to escalate. Additionally, if you try to call the hostage, they claim they have the hostage’s phone and if it rings, they will kill the hostage.

Several very smart, savvy people have been the victim of this and have gotten so far as actually on the verge of wiring the money before they figure out it is a scam. I have talked to local police and the FBI and they say that this activity is clearly escalating here over the last few weeks, and it is a nationwide problem, but there is little they have to go on at this point to actually track down the perpetrators; the calling numbers are basically hijacked (“spoofed” they call it) and untraceable and that is largely the only point of contact.

What can you do?

1.       Be aware of where your family is or should be, even your extended family. While not always easy, do your best.
2.       Give your family members a code word that is not put in their phones or social media and that only your family knows. If you get this call, ask for the code word. If they say they can’t or won’t give it, you know it’s a scam.
3.       Make a police report if you are contacted. While it may not immediately result in an arrest, each report may give law enforcement a dot to connect.
4.       If you or a family member lose a phone or one is stolen, take immediate action to wipe or erase the phone so if it gets in the wrong hands, it won’t be used against you.
5.       Look up the number that is calling you on a separate device. Many of the numbers associated with these scams immediately come up on Google, etc. as associated with these scams.

Very bad people doing very bad things. We must always be vigilant.

Lucid Scopes in Stock at Strong Persuader Arms

10/26/2014

Picture
Looking for a high quality, long range scope without a high price that leaves you long in the face? Take a look at Lucid. Their scopes are built by shooters for shooters. Offering only two models of scopes, Lucid has focused on high quality optics at a reasonable price rather than a catalog of glass with seemingly never ending options. Their 6-24 x 50 L5 scope is made with the long distance shooter in mind. Its proprietary reticle is set in a second focal plane rather than the primary plane to allow for more distance vision with less magnification allowing for more hold over for long shots. LUCID now offers training courses where off the shelf shooters with varied experience and weapons are trained to regularly hit targets at a mile distance with the L5. Check out the article on GunsAmerica here.

They have applied this same technology, including the L5 reticle, to their new class of hunting scope, the 4x – 16 x 44 Cross Over.  This scope is designed to incorporate the long range capabilities of big, precision scopes like the L5 into a downsized hunting scope.

Best thing about LUCID scopes??? The price! The L5 is a ridiculously low $395 and the Cross Over only $340. All are in stock at Strong Persuader. Stock up now for hunting season and for Christmas gifts.

Thoughts on the Las Vegas Tragedy

8/28/2014

Most all of us have heard the tragic news about the horrible accident involving a 9-year-old girl on a shooting range in Las Vegas.  Horribly, through a series of questionable decisions, this little girl was allowed to operate a fully automatic subcompact machine gun and operated it in such a manner that she killed her instructor.  The video that has seen wide attention on all the national media outlets shows her first firing a single round from the Uzi and the instructor switching it to fully automatic operation.  When the little girl pulls the trigger, the recoil suddenly and dramatically shifts the muzzle back and upwards where it kills the instructor standing to her left.

This was truly an avoidable accident.  Unfortunately, both sides of the gun ownership equation will attempt to make hay with this tragedy.  However, I think any such debate illustrates a loss of focus.
